Frequently Asked Questions
-
What makes your approach different from other math tutors?
I use the research-backed Concrete-Pictorial-Abstract model to build genuine understanding. I don't just help students pass tests—I transform how they see themselves as mathematical thinkers, building confidence that extends beyond the classroom.
-
My child says "I'm just not a math person." Can you help change this mindset?
This feeling is incredibly common—I felt the same way in school. While I validate these feelings, changing this self-perception is my specialty. I create experiences where students succeed, helping them discover that math ability isn't fixed but grows with understanding and practice. Students gradually build a new identity as confident mathematical thinkers.
-
What age groups/grade levels do you work with?
I work with students of all ages! While my expertise aligns with Kindergarten through 8th grade standards, I focus on mastery across the six mathematical categories (Number and Operations, Data Analysis, Fractions, Measurement, Algebraic Thinking, and Geometry) rather than grade level. This allows me to effectively support any learner based on their specific needs, regardless of age.
-
Do you work with students who have learning disabilities or special needs?
Yes, I have extensive experience working with neurodiverse students! This includes those with ADHD, anxiety, ASD, dyslexia, and dyscalculia. My personalized approach allows me to adapt strategies to each student's unique learning profile, ensuring every student can build mathematical confidence regardless of their learning differences.
-
How do you determine what my child needs?
I begin with a comprehensive assessment process that includes diagnostic tools, review of school performance data, review neurological evaluations, and discussion with both the student and parents. This allows me to pinpoint specific knowledge gaps and develop a strategic plan tailored to your child's exact needs.
-
How long are sessions and how often do we meet?
Sessions are 45 - 60 minutes long. The optimal frequency depends on your child's specific goals and needs, which we'll discuss during our initial consultation.
-
Where do sessions take place?
In-person sessions can occur at your child's school, your home, or public spaces like libraries. I prioritize comfort and minimal distractions.
-
How much do your in person services cost?
My standard rate is $125 per session, billed weekly or monthly. Families may also prepay for one month of sessions if preferred.
* I offer sliding scale options for families who need financial accommodation, based on availability. Please inquire during our initial consultation to discuss pricing that works for your situation.
-
What's your cancellation policy?
Sessions cancelled with less than 24 hours’ notice are charged in full. This includes cancellations due to schedule changes, forgotten appointments, or last-minute conflicts.
* I understand that life happens, so everyone gets one free last-minute cancellation. This policy isn't about punishment or collecting fees—it's simply to ensure my services remain available to all clients who need support.
